Age Spots
Age spots are also known as liver spots although
there is no link of these spots with liver. These are flat brown spots formed
due to sun exposure. These spots normally appear in fair skinned people on
face, hands, neck, back, arms and feet. These are known as solar lentigo in
medical science. There can be dryness, wrinkling, rough spots and thinning of
skin with these age spots. There are different treatments available including
fade creams, laser therapy and cryotherapy. The darkened spots can be removed
effective by using tretinoin cream. You can also use sunscreen or sun block.
Shingles
The outbreak of blisters is known as shingles which
can cause sever pain. It can be due to varicella zoster virus. This virus also
causes chickenpox. This virus lies silent after the attack of chickenpox in
nerve tissues. It reappears after years in the form of shingles. It is common
in the people over 50 years or more. The people with weak immune system due to
chemotherapy, HIV infection, transplant operation and radiation treatment can
have shingles. There can be burning, itching, shooting pain and tingling with
shingles on one side of face or body. There is a rash appeared as patch of dots
on the side of face or trunk which develops into small blister fluid fills.
These blisters then begin to dry and crust is formed.
There can be mild itching to intense pain with peak
of this rash. It can appear in most people once in life time but it is repeated
in people with impaired immune system. You should contact your doctor in case
of shingles. You can reduce the severity and duration of shingles attack by
immediate treatment using antiviral drugs. The painful effects of shingles
called postherpetic neuralgia can be reduced with these antiviral drugs. There
can be some discomfort around the affected area in case of injection.
Bruising
There can be increased bruising in older people on
arms and legs. There can be thinner skin with age. There is decreased support
around blood vessels due to fat loss and connective tissues due to which there
can be more chances of injury. It can take longer to heal with skin bruises. Bruising
can also be due to illness or medications. You should contact your doctor if
bruising appears in covered areas.
Keep your skin healthy
You can be able to keep your skin healthy by
avoiding sun exposure.
- You should
stay out of sun especially between 1.00
pm to 3.00 pm because there can be strong UV rays during this
time. You should also be careful in the cloudy skies.
- Use of
sunscreen is very important which can provide protection from UV rays of
sun. you should use sunscreen with SPF range of 15 or more. You should
also use products with broad spectrum and water resistant. The lotions
should also be applied when it is needed.
- The use of
protective clothing is very good. You can have hat with wide brim to
provide protection to your ears, neck, head and eyes.
- Artificial
tanning should be avoided.
- You should
keep an eye on your skin. You should contact your doctor if there is
change in the color, size, and shape of the skin.
